Fashion is rarely just about the clothes. Each article of clothing, every accessory, the colors, even the style of an outfit, and the shoes work together to present the person.  Our lives are fashioned into a sequence of events; holidays, new jobs, life cycles, and special memories that create our book of life.

As we navigate the "mid-week" of our lives and set down the work, cross off our ‘to-do’ lists and begin making weekend plans, get ready for a special event, we transition from our separate roles at work and home become one, incapsulated into a blur with a lot of laundry to finish by Monday morning. Many pick their attire for work and play without giving too much thought to their outfit, but we should. Fashion can be a great confidence booster, give you energy, and provide comfort. Fashion always illustrates who you are when you walk into the room, becoming body armor.

Whether you are navigating a career pivot, stepping into a leadership role, or simply redefining your personal brand, your style reflects who you are. Fashion is a series of choices acting as your armor and should never become your anchor. An anchor holds you in place, tethering you to a version of yourself that once was and no longer exists. Armor protects your ambition, speaks for you, and can often become the foundation for your next chapter. Designing your wardrobe to express who you are without needing an introduction, is key to blending your professional career and personal life into a fashionable work of art.

This week, we explore the concept of ‘refitting’ the intentional act of auditing your style and ‘discovery’ what types of fashion create an expressive and outward loudspeaker. Both working in tandem to define who you are, while giving others a visual about who you are. Refitting your wardrobe is also a stylish self discovery tool and a wonderful way to clean out your closet to refit your current wardrobe without spending a lot of money. Refitting begins by discovering your current items that can work together, followed closely by creating a list of seasonal items to add volume to your constant collection (others say capsule collection). Refitting your wardrobe and discovering what styles express you best for a new job, walking through parent teacher conferences at your kids' school, or while enjoying an empty nest after your kids have begun their adulting chapter in life, become your fashionable armor throughout all chapters in your book of life.

Inside this weeks Wear on Wednesday, we discover three versatile pieces that bridge the tactical precision of the professional and the fluid intuition of the parent and creator. We also look at three outfits to ensure you can go from outside athletics to a boardroom or restaurant with friends and family. Whether you are in your early twenties adulting in today’s ever-changing world or mid-50’s facing a changing physique, outfitted with today’s trends in a timeless and classic style, your confident outward appearance will also reflect your inner confidence too.

1. The Oversized Unstructured Blazer and Fabrics 2026-

The traditional corporate blazer was designed for a rigid, 9-to-5 world that no longer exists. So tight around the shoulders and waist, most men needed to unbutton their blazer each time they sat down. Womens early blazers were made with a very slim silhouette and polyester that kept in heat, making natural hormonal changes in life even more difficult. "Refitting" the blazer demands less structure with more fabric options, more volume and versatility. Today’s blazer offers many stylish deconstructed shapes with an oversized silhouette creating a sleek look when paired with a slimmer pant. Rich textures, high-quality wool-crepe, linen, and hybrid technical fabrics, offer stylish looks for a complete outfit.

The Armor: In a high-stakes environment, the oversized blazer provides a sharp, architectural silhouette. Paired with a slim-fit bodysuit or an oversized blouse and tailored trousers, it signals a person who understands structure but isn't confined by it. The oversized structure also creates a frame that is both authoritative and approachable. Paired over a crewneck t-shirt and matching pants made from the same technical fabric, a breathable, stylish, and comfortable outfit all day long is born.

The Creative: When the weekend arrives, the same blazers become the ultimate layer. Draped over a vintage graphic tee and distressed denim, it elevates a casual look into a "curated" ensemble, perfect for a gallery opening or a collaborative brunch with the kids. Taking the tech fabric blazer off the office floor and onto the golf course restaurant for a put together meal after a weekend of fun in the sun.

2. The Modular Leather Boot Fitting for Every Occasion-

Footwear is the foundation for every occasion. Modular shoe lines can refer to a singular shoe that can transition between different heel heights and other variables that are interchangeable. Modular can also reference a singular style that allows you to move between different worlds; the professional and the personal. The 2026 modular boot is a powerful addition to your wardrobe, offering strength in the visual design and comfort with the elevation of a pump with the stability of a flat. Hitting just above the calf, taller than a bootie and below the knee, offering more comfort all day long. Typically, the modular boot has a streamlined silhouette making it a great choice for under a variety of pants and a perfect addition to a classic length skirting.

The Armor: Under a wide-leg trouser, the pointed or square toe provides a grounded, powerful stance. It is the footwear of the decision-maker in a precise, modern, and ready for movement silhouette.

The Creative: Transitioning to your creative hours, these boots add a necessary edge to a flowy midi skirt or an oversized knit dress. They provide a "heavy" counterpoint to softer fabrics, creating the visual tension that defines high fashion.

3. The Luxe Knit Column Skirt-

The most overlooked piece in a constant collection and the 2026 perfect new piece for a transitional wardrobe is the knit column skirt. The knit fabric creates a polished look in an elongated line of a formal pencil skirt or calf draping style, but with the tactile comfort of loungewear. The Luxe Knit Skirt is the ultimate "bridge" garment because it responds to the body’s movement rather than restricting it, especially when life changes beyond your immediate control. Sleek, comfortable, versatile fabric, vertically ribbed or thicker for a quiet-luxury appearance, the Luxe Knit Skirt also pairs well with anything, usually designed with an elastic waistband, and takes you from Summer to Fall and Fall to Spring, making it a great investment piece.

The Armor: For a day of back-to-back meetings, style it with a tucked-in silk button-down underneath a short leather jacket and modular boots to achieve a sleek, streamlined, professional look that remains comfortable through a long day. Grab a crewneck tank top and tuck in with a short sleeve peplum jacket and cream leather sneakers for a modern weekend go-to look.

The Creative: On a Sunday afternoon, swap the silk for a chunky, oversized cashmere sweater and combat boots. The skirt becomes a canvas for texture and play, embodying the relaxed energy of a mind at rest but still inspired by the world around it.

The Philosophy of the Edit

Refitting isn't about buying a whole new life or entire wardrobe; it is about recognizing which pieces of your old life and garments are dragging you down. When we enter a period of transition, we often cling to clothes that represent safety. But safety is often just another word for "the past.” While the past will always remain memorable, today is magical. Creating magic with your fashion armor is life-changing and fashionably forward.
